An underground tank keeps the yard clear and holds a steadier temperature through the seasons, which propane appliances appreciate. Only the small access dome shows above grade; the vessel itself sits in an engineered excavation on a stable base.
Burial changes the corrosion picture, which is why underground models ship with factory coating and anodic protection. The sacrificial anode - not the tank wall - takes the electrochemical wear, and your installer verifies the anode connection at commissioning. Skipping that step is the classic underground-tank mistake, and it is entirely avoidable.
Plan the excavation before ordering: the hole needs machine access, and high water tables can call for ballasting so an empty tank cannot float. Installation must follow NFPA 58 and your local code and is a job for a licensed installer, who will also arrange the pressure test before the first fill. Like everything we sell, underground tanks ship empty and are charged on site by a licensed supplier.
