Most propane problems are not tank problems - they are connection problems. The regulator, gauge, hose and fittings decide whether an installation runs steadily, and they are also the parts that age fastest, living outdoors under sun and weather.
Regulators are the heart of it: they step tank pressure down to what the appliance expects. Low-pressure appliances such as grills and RV systems use fixed regulators - two-stage auto-changeover models switch between twin cylinders so the flame never stops mid-use. High-output equipment such as fryers, forges and weed burners uses adjustable high-pressure regulators instead. The two kinds are not interchangeable; match the regulator to the appliance’s rating.
Gauges answer the eternal question of how much is left without weighing the cylinder, and splitters let two appliances share one tank where their combined draw allows it. Whenever a connection is opened, test it closed again with soapy water before use - bubbles mean stop. If a fitting, valve or regulator shows damage, replace it; these are the cheapest components in the system and the wrong place to economise.
