500 gallons is the standard size for heating a home on propane - roughly 400 usable gallons at the 80% fill line, enough to carry a 2,500 to 4,500 sq ft house through a heating season alongside hot water, a range and a generator. Buried, it does all of that from under the lawn, which is why it is the size most homeowners choose when the tank would otherwise sit somewhere they have to look at it every day.
This is a vessel specified for below-grade service, not an above ground tank put in a hole: protective coating for soil contact, an anode for cathodic protection, and a shroud and dome keeping the valves, regulator and gauge accessible and weather-protected at ground level. Filling and reading the gauge happen at the dome exactly as they would on an above ground tank.
Installation can be added at checkout at a fixed price with the excavation included, carried out by a licensed installer we arrange locally - so the number you pay is the number you were quoted. Delivery is by freight to any address in the 48 contiguous states at our flat rate. The tank ships empty and is charged on site by a licensed propane supplier after the installer has set and tested it.
